Fast Ferry sailings and adverse weather conditions ?

I have been told that the ferry companies cancel these ferries at the drop of a hat if the weather is bad, am due to sail at the end of the week and weather is forecast as being terrible - what happens if it's cancelled, do you go on a 'normal' cross channel ferry or do you have to wait for the weather to improve ?Sian where are you going from and to? (my partner is a sea captain) It depends on what force the wind is but if fast ferry is not running then you can go on the normal one but you may have to go to the back of the queue behind everyone that has already booked if you see what I mean. If weather is too bad then all crossings will be cancelled. Usually force 8/9. Have a good timeHave you contacted the ferry company about it?

They should be your first port of call^_^

Just ask them.

JBV^_^Normal ferry crossings could also be cancelled if the weather is bad enough. However, a lot of these companies will ring you in advance if possible to arrange alternative journeys.

If worried, I would call them and ask, just to be safe.I dont know about cross channel ferries but on the ferries here (the isle of wight) they cancel the fast ferries if the weather is bad and sometimes they put on another replacement service or they advise you to get on the car ferry which takes longer but goes to the same place.

I would think that cross channel ferries do the same sort of thing in bad weather.I shouldn't worry about it. I sailed back from the Shetland Islands last November and the north North Sea was rough as anything.. It was the worst 12 hours of my life! I couldn't wait 'til we reached Aberdeen! Ferry companies will cancel crossings only in really adverse weather conditions and from what I've been through, those conditions have to be REALLY bad!

It all comes down to this one question: Are you a good sailor and can you hack excessive movement of the ship?
