Do they want them to donate an organ/bone/blood?
What is a bone marrow - in simple terms please! xxYou have to be on the bone marrow transplant list in order to be called up if you are a match with someone.
They take some jelly like matter from the spinal cord,and you have to stay in hospital for a few days.My husband is on the Anthony Nolan Donar list.
He has been on for some 6 yrs.
If you are on medication this will effect there decision,if you can become a donar.Its jelly inside of your bones that keeps your bones strong and is an important part of the human bodythe stuff on the inside of some of your bones.
I think its considered a tissue donationit's the stuff inside your bones...and is extremely painful if you donate it.

when you donate bone marrow this is what you are donatingbone marrow also contains 'building blocks' for cells- so say yu had to have all your white cells destroyed ( eg with chemo) then a bone marrow transplant may be required to allow your body t replace them, as yours could have been destroyed by the chemo too.it's a horrible looking gooey lump that you get in the core of your bones. It's where white blood cells are made.
I've only seen a short clip of some being taken out of a bone and my stomach still churns at the thought!
I'm sure when they are donating some they use a needle though, this tv clip was a whole bone (not attached to anything living) which they broke open.

Given Bone Marrow is not dreamily painful, There are two options depending of the Donner. One does not involved having to stay in Hospital, yes Icarus it is a big big needle but you do not feel it as there is also local anaesthesia.
The fact that you are in the register does not mean that you will be a mach for someone. Remember if you are a mach you are saving someones live.

VERY PAINFULLnot exactly sure but i know its the stuff inside ur bones---if someone has leukemia they may need some marrow from a healthy bone---i think there may be other conditions that may require marrow tooThey mean it is time for something to be done.
