Is this right ?

the Gulf Stream is this really strong current and if it stops then the whole of Europe will basically get really cold, as it carries heat east across the Atlantic. Europe and some parts of Africa could enter an Ice Age. Also, America could get warmer as the Gulf Stream also carries colder water west. This explains, for instance, why parts of New York get lots of snow in winter when London doesn't.

also can you explain it as simple as you can.Correct - the gulf stream keps the British isles warm in winter as warm water flows up the Atlantic from the tropics . With global warming taking place more rapidly now, then the North Atlantic is getting warm enough to slow the flow of the Gulf Stream. If the Gulf tream slows enough then this could cause another ice age . It has happened before!!yeah ur rite i heard this before - the gulf stream relies on a very sensitive ecosystem being kept in balance - id dunno where this is, but its stability is being threatened by something...The Gulf stream is driven by a combination of the earth's rotation, the heat drom the sun causing the atmosphere over the equator to heat up, and the deep currents that flow slowly several kilometers down in the Atlantic- it is affected by other factors, such as the density of the seawater (salt water is up to 10% heavier than fresh), and the arrangement of the land masses round the Atlantic. When the so called 'Atlantic Conveyor' (the slow circling of water round the entire Ocean) shut down in the past, it plunged the Northern hemispjere into an ice age, because warm air from the tropics did not reach the temperate regions causing a build up of ice in the Arctic ocean, and when that starts, it is difficult to stop
